CREST Chandigarh

CREST was created by MNRE, Government of India to develop Chandigarh as Model Solar City. The Master Plan for Model Solar City was prepared by The Energy and Resource Institute (TERI). The Master Plan of Solar City was approved by MNRE, GOI on Jan/12. Department of Science and Technology and Renewable Energy, UT Chandigarh through CREST is the Nodal Agency for executing Solar, EV Policy and other RE Projects in UT Chandigarh. The primary objectives of CREST includes creating scientific temper and awareness in the community; promoting science related activities by facilitating flow of information to educational institutions, government bodies, industries etc; promoting the development of new and emerging technology areas such as co-generation, Alternative fuels; collection of energy database to provide policy, promoting the adoption of Electric Vehicle (EV) in the city and planning input to the State Government etc.
